Off-Campus Education
R.F. Staples offers a number of courses for students to receive high school credit for learning opportunities outside of the classroom. The most common one is Work Experience, but there is also RAP (Registered Apprenticeship Program) and the Green Certificate Program.
Students must be 15 years old, in grade 10, and have completed the necessary pre-requisite courses in order to enroll in these programs.
Students must go through the enrollment process for off-campus education (even if it is in the student’s daily school schedule and/or if they have been in the program in the past).
If students are interested in getting work experience or RAP hours over the summer, they must enroll by June 4th. This allows for sufficient time for paperwork and site safety inspections to be completed.
Contact Ms. McKenzie about the pre-requisite courses, application forms, and other required paperwork, or if you have any questions about off-campus education.
As part of the Work Experience program, students will be added to a “Work Experience” Google Classroom.
Step 1: Complete HCS 3000 Job Safety (pre-requisite)
Step 2: Find a job – If you don’t have one at the beginning of the program, support will be provided. However if a job is not secured within the first month, other course modules will be provided so you can continue to earn credits towards graduation.
Step 3: Confirm your enrollment in Work Experience by:
- Contacting Ms. McKenzie to get enrolled in the Google Classroom
- Filling out the “Off Campus Application Form” in Google Classroom (for new AND returning work experience students)
