First Day Information

Dear R.F. Staples Families,

On behalf of the staff at R.F. Staples I would like to thank you for your patience. The last few days staff have been working together to provide a practical and safe environment as students return to our building.

This is what the first day will look like for students, grades 7, 9, and 11 on Thursday and 8, 10, and 12 on Friday.

  • Doors will open at 8:30
  • Please wear a mask at all times in the building. Staff will let students know when they can take their masks off.
  • Students will go to their assigned classrooms
    • By the end of the day, Wednesday, Sep 2 families should be able to see their child’s schedule in PowerSchool.
    • High school students, go to your first block class.
    • Junior high students do not go by the room numbers on your schedule, go to the rooms listed here.
      • 7-1 Room 6, 7-2 Room 4, 7-3 Room 9
      • 8-1 Room 2, 8-2 Room 5, 8-3 Room 7
      • 9-1 Room 14 (upstairs JH foods), 9-2 Room 17, 9-3 Room 8
      • French Immersion students, all grades, Room 1
    • Staff will be available to assist students. It may take a little time but the students will be cared for and directed to the correct place.
    • Lockers will be assigned at a later time.
  • The school is divided in half.
    • Junior High will stay on the South side of the school, Main Street Hallway and South. They can use the regular bus entry doors and the doors located on the East end of the Main Street Hallway.
    • High School will stay in areas from the Student Lounge and North. They can enter through the Theatre doors, North West doors, and the doors by the Small Gym.
    • See attached map.
    • The doors located on the South side between Automotives and Cosmetology are not to be a regular entry and exit door. Even though this has been used by students that park in the student parking, please use the other doors designated for high school.
    • High school students should not be in the south area of the school unless they have a designated class there.
  • The Main Entrance is for deliveries, parents needing to access the office and students that arrive late.
  • Staff will spend much of the day going over routines and procedures.
  • Lunch break
    • Junior high will eat in the room they are assigned to and is listed above.
    • High School students will stay in the class they have before the lunch break to eat.
    • Students wishing to leave campus to eat may do so. Food is not to be brought back and consumed in the school building.
    • Staff will go over the common areas that students can go when they are finished eating.
    • Masks are worn during the lunch break while students are in the building
    • Students are encouraged to go outside and get fresh air. As most classes will require students to keep their masks on, this is a good time to go outside and take their masks off.
      • Students still need to be respectful of others and physical distance.
  • At the end of the day students are asked to exit the building using the designated doors. Do not stay in the building to visit and hang out.

Staff have worked to establish routines and procedures, but it is possible that new ideas provide a better way to accomplish our goals. Students and families are asked to be flexible and adaptable if changes are needed.

Please contact teachers directly if you have specific questions about a class. Mr. Kulmatyski and I are also available to answer any questions.

Work Hard, Be Kind.

Sincerely,

Wayne Rufiange
